Floor repair - how to prepare the substrate?

If we would like to focus on the generally treated topic of floors, each time we will come to the point where one issue will arise – the ground. Maybe the phrase sounds innocent and general to some of us, but the subject should not be taken lightly. In any case, when we talk about the quality of the “floor” – we are talking not only about the surface, but also about the ground under this surface. In most cases (if not in all of them), the quality of the substrate, its strength parameters and the method of preparation have a huge impact on the functioning and service life of the “floor”. Or more precisely, its surface.

Therefore, below we present some important tips – how to prepare the substrate for the SpeedFloor PVC floor?

  • vacuum the substrate or carefully sweep it;
  • local cavities of the substrate clean (grinder, pea-drill for a hammer-drill or wire brush);
  • after cleaning and vacuuming the place of cavities, we prime it with a preparation adapted for this purpose;
  • after the ground dries, we fill these places with repair mass (we have a wide range of materials);
  • the whole substrate is covered with a primer or impregnation in order to bind loose particles on its surface and reduce its absorbency.

Such preparation of the substrate is undoubtedly sufficient for laying a floor made of modular tiles. What’s more, the compressive strength of the SpeedFloor floor in this case is limited only by the load capacity of the substrate itself. The floor can withstand pressure up to 500 kg / cm2 (applies to Standard type tiles).

Due to the way the Speedfloor PVC floor is used in some places (e.g. forklift transport roads, entrance ramps, intersections inside the company’s transport roads with high vehicular traffic) it will be necessary to glue its elements to the ground. We use two-component PU glue for this. In addition (if necessary) the substrate can be prepared additionally by making a leveling and strengthening layer.
