A floor covering that will not be damaged by water

Has it ever happened to you that there is a flood or the heating has burst and the entire room has been flooded? This situation is unpleasant, but you should take it into account when decorating your home. If a suitable floor covering is used that is not damaged by water, resources and worry can be saved in the event of a failure. Not to mention other problems, such as molds that like moisture.

If you live in an area that is often flooded, you must already have experience with floor renovation. But water is a potential risk, no matter where you live. For example, a plumbing failure may occur and the garage is flooded in no time. In some cases, it is enough to dry the garage, but if the wrong floor covering is used, the entire floor will have to be redone. How to prevent it?

The cheapest protection is epoxy.

The cheapest option to win over water is epoxy coatings. Despite the fact that they have a number of other disadvantages (for example, they are damaged by stains of oil and various chemicals), they deal with water quite well. They are usually used, for example, in shower cabins or bathrooms. The only drawback is mold, which likes a humid environment very much and does not bypass epoxy as well. Groundwater can also be another problem, which can squeeze through the thin epoxy layer and lead to bumps or holes.

To make the epoxy coating resistant to water, you should choose a manufacturer who can guarantee this. As a rule, two or three layers of coating will be required when the lower layer absorbs into the concrete and closes it off, preventing the concrete from absorbing water. In the event of flooding, however, it takes longer to dry the floor. Under the influence of high temperature, epoxy becomes brittle and loses its original properties, therefore the use of dryers is not recommended. The floor can be left to dry naturally, which will take a long time, you can also use air circulation – bring dry air and remove moist air. This process takes approximately fourteen days.

Ceramic tiles are easy to clean

If people are renovating floors in flood-affected areas, ceramic tiles are often used. This type of floor covering is usually also used in bathrooms as it is not harmful to the water. Easy cleaning is also an advantage. During a flood, there is water everywhere and also mud. Ceramic tiles are easy to clean.

The problem here is with the drying of the substrate, tiles that cannot be removed slow down this process. It takes some time for the concrete under the tiles to dry. Mold may form if the room has been damp for a long time. The only solution in this case is a complete renovation of the entire floor.

The wooden floor should always be removed.

Wooden floors look great, but they don’t like water too much. If your carpeting is wet, it is virtually certain that mold will soon develop. The only possible solution is to demolish the wood so that the substrate under it can dry for several weeks.

Depending on the degree of flooding, sometimes it is enough to replace a part of the floor, otherwise a complete renovation is required. Of course, you can install an original floor if it is already dry enough.

PVC can be dismantled and put back

PVC coverings, such as PVC tiles, which are not attached to the surface, offer a great simplification. Floating types of carpets can be easily removed completely. Dismantling does not damage them, so the rooms are simply laid back after drying, saving you a lot of money and worry about making a new floor. They are often used, for example, in garages, basements, workshops or industrial premises.

Unlike wood, PVC tiles can be washed thoroughly with water to remove the mud layer. Find out how you can clean other types of floor coverings. it also has a unique system of drainage channels that reduce humidity. So you don’t have to be afraid of mold. A small detail: the Air Flow system that dries out the floor.

Water can harm everyone.

It is a mistake to think that water problems do not concern you at all. There are many situations where water can cause serious problems. Underfloor heating failure, heavy rain, flooding or water failure in the house and the problem is here. In such cases, you will have a lot of other things to do, so you should make your life a little easier by using a reliable floor.
